Stingrays Playing on the Gulf Beaches
Warm weather and hot summer gulf of mexico water temperatures have brought the stingrays up close on the Gulf Beaches.
Each afternoon this week small schools of stingray have been seen playing in the surf and eating small schools of minnow that are taking advantage of the 80 degree Gulf of Mexico water.
Other than causing quite a commotion each time they arrive, these small stingray are not interested in hurting swimmers.
The best advice for avoiding a nasty sting is for swimmers to shuffle their feet when walking into the surf and to be aware should they end up standing in a school of the little guys.
As you can see from the video attached, the stingray are quite harmless as long as you remain calm and stand still while they pass.

Water Spouts - Tampa Bay Beaches
The weather has been strange on the gulf coast this week.
Yesterday brought strong rain to some areas, while others got little or none.
Along the Gulf Beaches several water spouts were seen with one also forming in the Bay as the storms moved into Tampa proper.

Indian Shores Aviary looses Bird
INDIAN SHORES – The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is asking the community’s help to locate a missing bird and long-time resident, “Peeps,” an American Oyster Catcher.
The bird escaped Monday, March 2 from the aviary located at 18328 Gulf Blvd. in Indian Shores.
It is a small black and white bird with bright orange eyes and a long orange skinny beak. It has pinkish legs and an orange rehabilitation tag on his leg.
Peeps is friendly and recognizes his name. Sanctuary staff said he is one of the most recognizable birds in the facility and is popular with hundreds of children in the area.
The bird is habitualized and has never been in the wild before and has no survival skills. Peeps needs to be returned to the sanctuary as soon as possible to survive.
Anyone with information should call 391-6211 or 391-2473.

Hurricane Fay Bearing Down on Florida
Hurricane Fay is the first storm to threaten our beaches in some time. Everyone from the Keys to Tallahassee is keeing an eye on this storm.

As of now we are still looking clear as the storm has passed over the keys and does not appear to be strengthening. However, once these late storms hit the Gulf it can be anyone's guess where they go.
The 5 p.m. storm advisory shows Fay moving north-northwest at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of about 64 mph. Barometric pressure is at 996 mb. Fay is currently about 140 miles south of Ft. Myers.
*A hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning has been posted for Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties.
*A hurricane watch is posted for Polk County.
*A tornado watch has been issued for south Florida.
